a letter to High School Me

Girl.

You started out pretty strong.  You were the same confident bubbly badass you’ve always been, but somewhere along the way, you get lost.  You start putting to much stock in everyone else’s opinions of you (your “rep”) and you start trying to fit in.  Weed at Cheer camp, drinking at parties, hooking up with boys WAY too old for you, trying to get as skinny as possible in the most unhealthy ways.  You are PERFECT as you are… you don’t need to change for anyone, unless it’s for your own sake and it’s for the better.

I know the marital problems between your parents are highly affecting you.  I’m so sorry that you had to be exposed to that at such a young age.  Don’t worry.  It gets better, and they get better.  I know it had a huge impact on you, just know… you will be stronger because of this and despite of this.  You dont have to drink alone, bring vodka to school in water bottles, and try to get a boyfriend to take the pain away.  You have all of the tools you need to succeed, and they are WITHIN you.

Be secure in the wonderful butterfly human you are.

Be sure that you are STILL La Reina de Todo. (Thanks to Abuelito.)

BE STILL.

Breathe.

Be you.   She is good enough.
